A Dungannon man has completed a mammoth walking challenge to raise vital funds for Northern Ireland breast cancer charity Pretty ’n Pink, following a fundraising challenge inspired by their own experience of breast cancer.
Ivan Kerr took on the challenge of walking from Dungannon Swifts to Portrush over several days to raise vital funds and awareness for the charity, which has played an important role in the lives of Ivan and his wife, Sylvia.
The couple became passionate supporters of Pretty ’n Pink after Sylvia was diagnosed with breast cancer, experiencing first-hand the fear, emotional strain and challenges that can accompany a diagnosis.
Wanting to give something back, Ivan decided to take on the demanding walk to support the charity’s work helping patients and families affected by breast cancer across Northern Ireland.
The fundraising total has now reached beyond £20,000, thanks to the generosity of everyone who supported the couple throughout the journey.
Founded in 2006 by Noleen Adair, Pretty ’n Pink is Northern Ireland’s only registered breast cancer charity. Run by a small team with the support of volunteers from across the province, the charity provides practical and financial assistance to breast cancer patients and their families.
Through its support fund, Pretty ’n Pink helps ease the financial pressures that can arise following a diagnosis, offering assistance to those undergoing treatment as well as people who continue to be affected by breast cancer or its treatment after it has ended.
All money raised by the charity stays within Northern Ireland, helping local people and their families when they need it most.
For Ivan and Sylvia, the fundraising challenge was an opportunity to support a cause that means so much to them personally, while helping ensure other families can access support during an incredibly difficult time.
Pretty ’n Pink expressed its gratitude to the couple and everyone who contributed to the fundraising effort, highlighting the difference their generosity will make to people affected by breast cancer throughout the province.
The couple’s remarkable achievement has raised both significant funds and awareness for a charity that continues to provide vital support to patients and their loved ones across Northern Ireland.
