Stephen Lee led the way on a busy week at Dungannon Golf Club

Ladies’ results

THE Dungannon ladies might have completed their fixtures for this season, but no one has confined their clubs to the attic just yet. The Winter League is underway, run by a group of enthusiastic ladies.

In total, 64 players have been divided into eight teams, and the six best cards from each team will be counted towards their team’s total. The theme this year is winter weather with monikers like ‘Rain Deers’, ‘Storm Troopers’ and ‘Iced Tees’.

In week one, 51 ladies competed.  The ‘Frozen Troopers’ were the best team with 92 points and Karen Hetherington was the best individual with 19 points.  Lorna Stewart was a worthy runner up with 18 points on a count back from Anne Quinn and Vicki McCausland.  Deirdre O’Rourke bagged the only two of the week, at the ninth hole.

The course is in great shape and members all enjoyed the autumnal colours, even though fallen leaves can make it difficult to find the golf ball. Remember this is a fun event over nine holes, so enjoy some friendly rivalry. Thanks to the Winter League team of Sheila McNamee, Magdalen Maneely, Bernie McCann, Ann Mullan and Rose McAleer for running this popular competition.

Men’s results

With significant investment currently being made in the club’s future, major improvement works are underway on holes 14, 15 and 16. As a result, club competitions are being played over the remaining 15 holes while the upgrades are completed over the coming months.

Despite the reduced course and some excellent scoring conditions, it still took a superb performance to claim victory last weekend. More than 130 men competed, with Stephen Lee producing an outstanding 37-point haul to secure first place. Francis Gervin and Marcus McMullan finished second and third respectively, while Dominic Rafferty added yet another Best Gross prize to his growing collection.

New welcome sign

If you’ve played at Dungannon recently you’ll have noticed the new ‘welcome’ board, complete with clock, at the first tee. This wonderful new addition to the course was generously sponsored by last year’s captains, Blaine Nugent and Vicki McCausland. The club would like to record their heartfelt thanks for their generosity.
