Dungannon rider Cameron Dawson secured third place in the 2026 British Sportbike Championship after a composed final race at Brands Hatch, while attention now turns to this weekend’s season-ending Sunflower meeting at Bishopscourt

DUNGANNON rider, Cameron Dawson, rode a safe, calculated final race in the British Sportbike Championship at Brands Hatch on Sunday and scored enough points to finish third in the series, won by his team-mate Asher Durham.

Dawson lost ground on the opening lap, but soon found his rhythm and worked his way from 15th to finish 10th.

The level of USBK racing was highlighted at the final round of the BSB series at Brands Hatch, where Carl Philips finished 4th in the Superstock race amongst the regulars, whilst Luke Jones, who was a top-six finisher at the early short-circuit races here this year, was the winner of the final Supersport New Gen race!

Sixteen-year-old Jack Burrows excelled on his debut in this class on the SCARS Racing Ducati. In race one, he finished 23rd, and in race two he fared better, finishing 16th, just outside the points, despite running as high as 12th at one stage. Jack can be well satisfied with these results, as he ran with James McManus and Scottish champion Keo Walker.

Burrows also carried race number 35, in memory of the late Trevor Ferguson, who was a great family friend.

Sunflower this weekend

The curtain comes down on the 2026 tarmac race season this weekend at Bishopscourt, with the annual end-of-season Sunflower meeting. With entries still coming in, it looks set to be an interesting weekend of top-drawer short-circuit racing.

In the Superbike class, USBK Champion Carl Philips will be out for victory on his BMW, but he will face stiff opposition from fellow BMW riders Johnny Campbell and Ryan Gibson.

Honda riders include the MasterMac team riders Rhys Irwin and Eugene McManus, and possibly former winner Richard Kerr, while Jamie Lyons will represent the Ducati marquee on the SBT machine.

The Supersport New Gen could well be the best race of the day, making a return after a few months' lay-off, and on a new machine, Korie McGreevey will return onboard a new V2 SBT Ducati; also Ducati-mounted will be MMB rider James McManus, Binch Racing's Olly Barr and Scars Racing's Burrows.

James Ellison will be onboard the 636 Kawasaki, while Manx Grand Prix's best newcomer this year, Laurent Hoffman, is down to ride in this class. Triple winner at the last meeting, Adam Brown will be in action on his own Yamaha, whilst Lucas Brown and Richard Cooper will be on board the R9 Yamahas.

Hondas are short on the grid with only two representatives, Ruben Sherman Boyd and Graeme Smallwoods.

The sidecars are well represented, with the championship at stake between Derek and Dylan Lynch, separated by just one point; add in the usual suspects, along with the Manx crew of Craig Melvin/Jake Roberts and Scotland's Sam and Jack Laidlow.

Buster Sherman Boyd will make his 400 debut in the LWSS, in which local lad Marley Brown will also be in action. Only a few weeks ago, Lewis and Paige Mullen made history when they became the first brother and sister to win a short circuit race at national level on the same day.

This weekend, Paige hopes to make HER own history. Heading into this weekend's event, the Newmills lassie leads the Moto One championship, where an on-the-podium finish can land her the title!

A two-day ticket is just £30, with Sunday's action at £20.

Michael Laverty announced his new BSB team for 2027; Glenn Irwin and Storm Stacey will be on board new BMW machinery, which should be more competitive with last week's rule changes. Irwin last rode the German bike for the TAS team. Lavertys new GRYD Team is effectively the old TAS team.

SCARS Racing, which started this year, has scored big wins with Michael Dunlop on the roads and Luke Stapleford winning the British Supersport New Gen championship; they've also announced major changes for 2027: they will move up to the BSB Superbike class and be BMW-backed.

No riders have been announced yet, but expect Rory Skinner to lead the team, possibly with Danny Kent or Oli Bayliss.
