Magherafelt-based Conway Group has achieved rising pre-tax profits and turnover following major restructuring

A Mid Ulster construction group has said it has achieved rising pre-tax profits and turnover following a major restructuring.
Conway Group in Magherafelt has interests spanning healthcare, property investment and development, energy and construction.
The group owns a string of care homes across Northern Ireland as well as having substantial property interests in Northern Ireland, Scotland, England and Republic of Ireland. The Group’s office interests include the Centrepoint building in Belfast city centre.
It has also been known for its partnership with the Premier Inn chain of hotels, building a number of its venues in Northern Ireland.
In accounts for 2024 filed last year, PJ Conway Contractors Ltd, the parent company before the demerger and restructure, reported turnover of £37.3m and pre-tax profits of £7.6m.
Now the group has announced consolidated accounts across the group including for Conway Holdings No 2, the parent company, and Conway Holdings No 3.
Conway Group said combined turnover for the group in 2025 had reached £51.3m following restructuring, with pre-tax profits now £11.9m, up by 57pc.
The original contracting business was founded in 1974 by PJ and Tillie Conway and is still run by PJ Conway.
It now employs more than 1,000 people across its various interests.
A group spokesperson said: “The group have reported that they intend to reinvest profits back into their respective businesses, with investment planned and underway across the healthcare, property and energy sectors.
“The construction operations will also play an important role in supporting the group’s development programme, providing capacity and expertise for future projects.”
The group said that employment growth would form an important part of its plans, with new roles expected to emerge as investment is made and individual companies expand their operations.
The spokesperson said: “The restructure marks the latest stage in the group’s development, with management now focused on building on the year-end results and creating further opportunities across its portfolio. The group said it remained committed to long term investment, sustainable growth and employment creation, with profits being reinvested rather than distributed outside the businesses.
“The investment programme is expected to support the continued development of existing operations, while also creating opportunities for additional employment as the businesses continue to expand.”
The Magherafelt based Conway Group operates care homes under the Brooklands Healthcare brand. The Conway Holdings businesses were set up in October 2024. As the main company, Conway Holdings No 2 is the parent company of Brooklands Healthcare, Merit Retail, Merit Homes, Carswood Ltd and Glenbrook Stud.
Its principal activity is described in a strategic report as “the operation of care home facilities and the operation of a stud farm and raising of horses”.
According to the report, the Conway Group was restructured on August 27 last year, though there was no change in ownership as a result of the restructuring.
The report goes on to state: “the directors consider the results for the period to be satisfactory”.
“The group will continue to seek every opportunity to increase profitable turnover,” according to the report.
