A Dungannon man is accused of raping and sexually assaulting a woman, intentionally administering a substance against her consent and with the intention of stupefying or overpowering her to enable sexual activity

A 33-year-old man currently facing what were described as “very serious charges” involving the rape of a woman allegedly drugging her, may be re-interviewed in relation to further offences.

Gareth Dobbin, from Thomas Street, Dungannon, is accused of raping and sexually assaulting a woman, intentionally administering a substance against her consent and with the intention of stupefying or overpowering her to enable sexual activity. Offending is alleged to have occurred between May 6 and 15.

A detective constable aware of the facts of the case previously told Dungannon Magistrates Court the charges could be connected.

No details surrounding the circumstances of the alleged offences were disclosed during the short hearing at which Dobbin spoke only to confirm his identity and that he understood the charges against him.

While bail was not opposed Dobbin spent some time remanded in custody as he was unable to obtain a suitable address for release; however this was recently rectified and he appeared in person before the most recent court sitting.

A prosecuting lawyer advised police have conducted a number of additional enquiries and it may be necessary to reinterview Dobbin in respect of other potential offences.

District Judge Francis Rafferty remanded him on continuing bail of £500 and banned all contact by any means with the alleged victim. The case will be mentioned again on November 11.
