Dungannon seconds secured an impressive 24–7 away victory over Malone 2s at Gibson Park, taking all five points after a strong all-round performance.
Dungannon’s defensive effort was excellent throughout, with the forwards setting the tone through consistent scrum pressure, winning penalties and disrupting Malone’s lineout ball.
Patrick Conroy opened the scoring following excellent work from Andrew Lee to create the opportunity. Malone responded shortly afterwards to take a 7–5 lead, but Dungannon hit back with Conroy grabbing his second try. Great work from Luke Glackin and Lee created space out wide, allowing Dungannon to finish clinically and take a 10–7 lead into half-time.
Dungannon started the second half strongly, playing in the right areas and building pressure. James Adamson produced an outstanding individual effort for the third try, beating four defenders to cross the line, with Josh Girvan adding the conversion.
The bonus-point try followed from a scrum on Malone’s 22-metre line. The forwards applied more pressure at scrum time before the backs launched, allowing Brandon Gribben to cross for Dungannon’s fourth try. Girvan added the extras to complete the scoring at 24–7.
A strong defensive display, dominant set-piece and clinical finishing ensured a deserved five-point haul for Dungannon.
Attention now turns to next week’s cup clash against Bangor 1st XV.
