Racist graffiti in Coalisland and a burnt-out car near Brackaville Chapel have been condemned, with the incidents described as unacceptable and disrespectful to the local community.

Racist graffiti appeared which appeared over a number of nights in the Coalisland area has been criticised and described as ‘unacceptable’ by Torrent DEA councillor, Dan Kerr.

Kerr stated that he has personally visited the family affected and reassured them following the incident. He has contacted council representatives and been assured the graffiti will be removed as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, a separate incident has taken place close to Brackaville Chapel, where a burnt out car was discovered near the Grotto.

The incident has been described as particularly disrespectful given its proximity to the local cemetery, Kerr said,

“The act itself was deliberately done but doing such a thing near the local cemetery is very disrespectful with lots of people finding comfort in visiting their deceased family members' final resting place.”

Both incidents have sparked concern locally, with calls for respect for residents, families and places which hold importance within the community.
